Graepel components for agricultural machinery – New order from Massey Ferguson

Mow and windrow hay easily: With its new WR series, Massey Ferguson is above all looking to meet the needs of US farmers who need a robust and powerful implement for this task. Graepel added a critical component.

With the recently introduced WR197, WR235 and WR265 windrower models, the American agricultural machinery manufacturer has placed great emphasis on robustness and cost-effectiveness. The engines are said to be ten percent more efficient than the previous models. Among other things, one should especially note a Graepel-made component: the radiator basket.

The German supplier made this from sheet steel with a hexagonal hole contour. It consists of just four components, all of which have Electro Coat powder coating. Such cold-formed components are one of the technological domains in which Graepel specializes. Structural strength and air throughput are often-contradictory performance objectives that need to be reconciled. The solution found for MF encloses the complete engine tail with the radiator assembly. For example, enormous quantities of fresh and cooling air are supplied for diesel engines with a power of up to 206 kW / 280 hp. This is an important contribution that not only helps to achieve the consumption savings of up to 12 percent in this case, but also ensure low exhaust emissions. Graepel supplied the matching side grating.

MF involved the supplier in the vehicle development process early on, so that Graepel could bring all of its expertise to the table. After all: Graepel’s material experience goes back to 1889 — scarcely any other manufacturer can claim more. This allowed Massey-Ferguson to avoid extensive design changes, which are usually very costly as a product nears market launch and can cause significant project delays.

Graepel has already supplied components to Massey Ferguson’s parent company AGCO, for their brands such as Fendt and Valtra. These include sturdy cab steps with a non-slip structure. To be safe, Massey Ferguson also ordered these components from Graepel for the new WR series. The delivery to the customer was made on schedule: The Germans have a factory in North America. The fact that Graepel was the only manufacturer in its field that has manufacturing capacity in the customer’s vicinity on three continents was a particular advantage, said Massey Ferguson.
